It is with great pride that we, the brethren of Tupelo Masonic Lodge No. 318 F&AM, announce that Bro Matthew Michael Gregory /G\, was initiated as an Entered Apprentice, passed to the degree of Fellow Craft, and raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason on 23 March 2013, under special dispensation and by the order of M.W. Bro. Myron L. Ware, Grand Master of Masons in Mississippi, MS Grand Lodge, Free & Accepted Masonry. Brother Gregory has now been listed on our Wall of Honor!

Although Bro Gregory had many special guest in lodge with him Saturday, we are sure that none were more special than his Grandfather, Bro Robert Oneal McNeece.

We would like to thank The Grand Lodge of Mississippi, The Mississippi Masonic Confederate Degree Team, The Mississippi Masonic Mountain Men Degree Team, and those who worked tirelessly to put this event together, promote, and prepare our lodge to host it. Some of those brethren are Bro Ray Stanford, Bro Derik Rushing, Bro Isaiah Edger, Bro John Davidson, Bro Wheeler Pulliam, Bro James O. Roberts, Bro PD Newman, Bro Austin Long, and Bro Arnie Cade. To all the countless visiting brethren from several states and to members of Tupelo 318 that attended and took part in, this piece of Mississippi Masonic History, we offer our gratitude and we are truly humbled for your support.

Our newly raised brother is at this present time deploying. Bro Gregory is on his way to bring honor to the fraternity, uphold the legacy of the craft, and defend our freedom in his service to our nation. Bro Gregory also has another title, that of United States Marine. As he boarded that aircraft today, he left behind a wife, mother, father, countless other family members, and hundreds of thousands of brethren in which his bond can never be broken...

I encourage all who may gaze upon this post, pause at this time, in a moment of silence, and offer a prayer for PFC Matthew Michael Gregory, USMC, and his family. Matt, we salute you our brother and look forward to your safe return so that we might once again have the honor of sitting along side you in lodge. God Speed our brother, God Speed!

New Sign & Flagpole - Tupelo Masonic Lodge No. 318 F&AM

The brethren of Tupelo Masonic Lodge No. 318 F&AM would like to thank the following local companies and nonprofit organizations for thier hard work, donations, and contributions they made during a recent project to add a new sign and flagpole to the exterior of our lodge for better visibility on Veterans Blvd in Tupelo, Ms.

The sign was fabricated and detailed by two local companies located in Tupelo. Both companies are divisions of Transport Trailer Service, Inc., which is owned by one of our brethren, Larry Michael. Larry is a Master Mason and member of R.E. Lee Masonic Lodge No. 156 F&AM in Tupelo, and also a 32º Scottish Rite Mason.

The fabrication and construction of the sign was completed by Precision Machine & Metal Fabrication,Gabe Boykin - General Manager and team.

The detailing and covering of the sign was completed by Fastwrapz, Josh Smith - General Manager and team.

A new flagpole, U.S. flag and Mississippi flag were placed behind our sign in order to further enhance the exterior of our lodge. This new addition was donated on behalf of Woodmen of the World Tupelo Lodge 130, a Fraternal Nonprofit Benefits Society. The presentation was made by Arnie Cade, Field Representative with WOW and Vice President of WOW Lodge 130. Arnie is also a Master Mason and member of Tupelo Masonic Lodge No. 318 F&AM in Tupelo.

Special recognition also needs to be given to Bro Derik Rushing, Bro Ray Stanford, Bro Wheeler Pulliam, and Bro John Davidson, for the donation of thier physical labor and valuable time to ensure that this extensive project came together.

We hope that you will find time to ride by and see our new addition for yourself and if you are a Mason in good standing, we would love to have you visit our lodge.

The Mississippi Masonic Confederate Degree Team

THE MISSISSISSIPPI MASONIC CONFEDERATE DEGREE TEAM

The Mississippi Masonic Confederate Degree Team was organized in May 2012 to help promote interest in free masonry and granting members a chance to become proficient in their work, while allowing them a chance to gain knowledge in the fraternity during the War Between the States. Each member is requested to research clothing and equipment used during the period from April 1861 to April 1865, obtain a uniform and articles used by the Confederate forces during that time frame. He may choose from any branch of service including medical, chaplains, suttlers (civilians), and if desired Union, before he can participate in the degrees. Each member is also asked to be able to relate a short account of a Masonic event that took place during the Civil War, such as the Masonic Rights given to Lt. John E. Hart of the USS Albatross by Feliciana Lodge #31 in St. Francisville La. The funeral contained both Union and Confederate forces. Members may also tell about their ancestors, who were in the war, relate stories of their lodges or towns or battles close to their homes. These are to be short so as not to interfere with the importance of the degree or slighting the candidate.

We did not form this team to make a political statement or to give the impression that only Confederates were the ones who practiced the True Tenants of Freemasonry during the Cival War because this would be invalid. I received a few e-mails when we first began suggesting we change the name because many Southerners joined the Union. This was a war in which many families were torn apart, some never to recover; friends were pitted against each only to face one another in some of the bloodiest battles ever fought on American soil. Many found themselves holding the dying and mutilated bodies of their fathers, sons, brothers, and longtime friends; such was the case of a father discovering his dying son. The son was a Confederate soldier, the father Union, being unable to play "Dixie" at his son's funeral he was allowed to perform a song which is still used today at military burials, known by all as "Taps".

To date we have conferred five Entered Apprentice Degrees and Three Master Mason Degrees and are looking forward to doing more. Our active members are Gene Vincent, Larry Minyard, James Whitaker, Leslie Reeves, George Frazier, Bruce Childress, Kelly Martin, Terry Morgan, Richard Rodgers, Wade Johnson, Ed Jernigan, Gerald Klein, Edsel Carpenter, Stu Wright, and Stuart Wright.

Other members who do not yet have uniforms or have not worked in any degree are Chris Wilbourn, Robert Moore, Louis Correro, Randy Welch, Zack Case, Walt Karr, Jamie McMillian, Paul Reese, Ron Gardner, James Waldo, and Ray Keith. We have lost one of our original members since we started. Brother James Fullilove passed away from cancer a short time ago.

I conceived the idea of forming a degree team after attending a Masonic Cave Degree in Tennessee. The degree was conferred by a Masonic Civil War Degree Team. On our way home those of us who attended began discussing the idea of forming our own team. We were not sure how to start or if it would be alright with the Grand Lodge of Mississippi, F. & A.M. Sometime later we began hearing about the Mountain Men Masonic Degree Team, so I inquired if we could form our team and got the go-ahead. I have been a War Between the States "re-enactor" for about fifteen years as well as other time periods before that. I had been to re-enactments and talked with other Masons who thought it was a good idea. We all had Confederate uniforms so we decided on the name and started recruiting members.

I believe another reason for doing this is to honor those who gave their lives and limbs to defend their beliefs, both Federal and Confederate.

In doing research on my family I found that many of them were Masons.
One of my g-g grandfathers was a Chaplain with 10^th Texas Infantry and also Mason. My grandfather was a Past Master of Williams Arizona lodge #38 in 1931 and a Veteran of WWI. My father was also a Past Master of Williams Arizona lodge #38 in 1951 and a Veteran of WWII.

Although my dad and grandfather have little to do with the War Between the States their influence on my life seemed to fit into my ideals for this team. It is a tribute to them and all veterans.

The Mission of the Mississippi Masonic Mountain Men Degree

Team is “to exemplify the first three degrees in Ancient Craft

Masonry as approved by the Grand Lecturer of the Grand Lodge of

Mississippi and Board of Custodians of the adopted work in

Mississippi and to create enthusiasm, participation, membership

growth and interest in Mississippi Masonry and Masonry in general

by exemplifying the work in authentic period correct pre-1840

Mountain Man Regalia”

The Mississippi Masonic Mountain Men (MMMM) Degree Team was originally organized by Past Master Wilson Arthur Windham, MMMM No.I while serving as Worshipful Master of the sponsoring lodge-John Henry Wooten, Sr. Lodge No. 503, F&AM, Jones County, Mississippi as a testament and celebration of the lodge’s One Hundredth Anniversary in 2009.

The minimum mountain man outfit consists of a Customized Authentic Handmade Wool Trade Blanket Capote, Handmade Elk hide moccasins and masonic apron, period correct Handmade Osnaburg shirts, pants and a possible bag. Accessories may include other items and clothing normally used by the mountain man prior to 1840. All attire is authentically produced to represent the actual mountain man dress from the period of 1804 to 1840. All participating members of the degree team confer the degrees in authentic attire. The authenticity of the outfits is one of the things that degree attendees say makes the presentation exciting, unique and inspirational. The MMMM degrees are indicative of how our Masonic Forefathers would have performed degrees by campfire light as they trapped and traveled the Great Plains and Rocky Mountains of North America.

Strict research has been done from the time our Brothers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, under orders for the Great Expedition to find a way West by President and Brother Thomas Jefferson, set out to find a route to the Pacific Ocean in May of 1804. These great Masons and Patriots were very active Masonically as they conferred numerous degrees under the stars on high hills and in low vales and fulfilled the orders of President Jefferson. Brothers Lewis and Clark began what would be a short-lived portion of our American History as many of their expedition would be raised Master Masons and continue to trap, raise and guide others westward. The Mountain Men Rendezvoused annually to trade their wares and often to confer degrees. History teaches us that they conferred many Masonic Degrees during this period of less than 40 years which ended in 1840 at the last Rendezvous held at the converse of Horse Creek and the Green River near Daniel, Wyoming.

The Mississippi Masonic Mountain Men held The First Annual MMMM Rendezvous and Campfire Degree conferral January 23, 2010. A beautiful outdoor lodge setting has been established along Rocky Creek between Lake Ivell and Lake Hatten in western Jones County, Mississippi for an annual MMMM campfire degree. The date is set annually, and is usually the fourth Saturday in January. To date over 4,000 Masons have witnessed this unique degree team as they have conferred degrees all across Mississippi. By special invitation of the Grand Masters of Tennessee and Alabama, this team has performed this beautiful work in these states. Invitations are outstanding in several states with an outdoor degree scheduled to be held at the annual Tennessee Coon Degree June 2, 2013 some 40 miles east of Memphis, Tennessee.

The MMMM degree team is limited and consists of only twenty-four active members. Several members have retired and/or relinquished their active status but remain inactive members. Members must be Past Masters, be proficient in the adopted work and recommended, elected and accepted by unanimous vote of the degree team active members. Members are assigned a unique number with their credentials and a special MMMM pin for lapel use outside of the mountain man regalia. The team confers any of the three degrees and has some of Mississippi’s finest ritualist.

On Saturday, March 23rd 2013, with the permission of M.W. Myron L. Ware, Grand Master of Masons in Mississippi, Grand Lodge of Mississippi, by Special Dispensation, Mr. Matthew Michael Gregory, will receive ALL three Masonic Degrees in one day.

Mr. Gregory was born on March 9th, 1991 in Tupelo, Ms. He attended Tupelo High School and Mooreville High School, both of Lee County and graduated in May 2009. Mr. Gregory is the Grandson of Bro Robert (Bob) Oneal McNeece, a Master Mason, and life-time member in good standing of Tupelo Masonic Lodge No 318 F&AM, since being raised in 1970. Bro McNeece also belongs to the York Rite and is a 32° Scottish Rite Mason.

Mr. Matthew Michael Gregory was married to Briana Raelyn Gregory in December 2012.

'Matt', as he is known by, had been attending Itawamba Community College in Fulton, Ms. where he majored in Diesel Technology since 2009 and was working for Idealease from October 2010 until he took his Oath of Enlistment and received his orders.

According to Matt's Grandfather, "he has been seriously inquiring about becoming a Mason since before he was even old enough to take the first step"... "at this point, I honestly can not tell you how old he was when he actually made his mind up"..."I just had to finally just tell him that although he was on the right track, he would simply have to wait until he was older".

The years passed and the questions continued until there was no stopping him. Matt's Grandfather put him in touch with a brother, when at last, he finally reached the appropriate age and he waisted no time setting up a meeting. Especially when Matt and his Grandfather both realized that Matt didn't really have to wait until his 21st Birthday! Yes, "Ooops", is right, he had waited three years longer that he needed to by this point and Bro McNeece was quick to remind Matt that he was old and had too many things in his brain to keep track of!

Matt first approached Bro Arnie Cade on August 17th, 2012 and then requested a petition to receive the three degrees on November 7th, 2012. His petition was put out on committee on November 12th, 2012 and was voted on and accepted during our Monthly Stated Communication on December 10, 2012.

Matt began making preparations over a year ago for "big things to come" during the year of 2012. He worked full time, attended college full time, prepared for graduation and yes, even a wedding. Two other major decisions that he made was with regard to fulfilling a long family history of Duty and Service to both God and Country whereby he might begin to establish the foundation or framework for his own future legacy. So, as to no surprise, by all accounts of those who know him best, Matt proudly enlisted in The United States Marine Corps.

This was completed just prior to the second part of his quest, a journey that had been in his life from birth and deep within his heart. A desire that could not be extinguished and a passion that burned just as hot as all the other specific goals in which he had mapped out for his life. This final calling had managed to make it into the "Top Five" of his bucket list and was one that in his own words, "was as important to him as getting married and joining the military. This goal was to follow in the footsteps of his family and make petition to become a Free & Accepted Mason. All the while, he was awaiting his ship date for Boot Camp at the Marine Corp Recruit Depo in Parris Island, SC.

Unfortunately, due to the very short window given, we were not able to schedule his first degree because during the time his petition was out for investigation, Matt was ordered to report for military duty on December 17th, 2012, just one week after being accepted.

To further complicate matters, Matt is scheduled to graduate from boot camp on March 15th, 2013 and will only have ten days of leave before deploying to an undisclosed location on March 25th, 2013 in the support of our nations ongoing Global War on Terrorism.

After much lengthy discussion with Matt, his Grandfather, Bob McNeece, another Mason that has been a corner stone in his life, Bro JZ McCormick, also a member of Tupelo Masonic Lodge No 318 F&AM since 1971, the Worshipful Master of our lodge, Bro Ray Stanford, officers, committees, and brethren, we decided to contact the Grand Lodge of Mississippi to see what options we had available to us.

It was apparent from the beginning that primarily, due to both the age and health of Bro McNeece and Bro McCormick, as well as the many unknowns surrounding the contingent deployment of Mr. Gregory, that as Freemasons, we had both a solemn duty and obligation to find a way to not only, make this "once in a lifetime" opportunity, as memorable as possible but to also ensure that those Masons who have mentored Mr. Gregory over his lifetime, were able to share this with him, as we are too often reminded that we are never promised "tomorrow".

After many hours of thought, weeks of planning and coordinating, by Bro. Derik Paul Rushing, PM - Tupelo No. 318, and Bro. William Arnold (Arnie) Cade, Senior Deacon - Tupelo No. 318, along with the extended support and collaboration of R.W. Bro. Christopher M. Reid, PM - Grand Marshal/Librarian - MGL, R.W. Bro. Micky P. McMahan, Past DDGL - Grand Secretary - MGL, Bro. Wilson Arthur Windham, PM / MMMM No.I - Wooten, Sr. Lodge No. 503, Bro. Bobby Ainsworth, PGM / MMMM No. III - MGL, Bro. Gene Vincent, PM /MMCDT - Grenada Lodge No. 31, and Bro. Jerry Klein, WM / MMCDT - Fulton Lodge No. 444, we were able, under the blessing of the G.A.O.T.U., and special permission of Most Worshipful Bro. Myron L. Ware, Grand Master of Masons in Mississippi - MGL, to put together a day that will go down in Masonic History.

Rodney Shelton Fulgham Faces Boliver County Justice Court Judge for Charge of Vehicular Homicide in the Death of Shelby Dawson Harmon

Rodney Shelton Fulgham, 23, of Boliver County, Ms. was taken into custody October 29th and charged with Felony Vehicular Homicide in the October 20th domestic violence related, hit and run death on US 61 near the Boyle Community, of Shelby Dawson Harmon, 20, of Cleveland.

Fulgham, which had addresses listed in both Cleveland and Shaw, was escorted from the Bolivar County Regional Correctional Facility to the Bolivar County Justice Court and appeared before Honorable Judge Harold Ward Sr. on October 30th.


Fulgham, confined with handcuffs and leg irons, and head down, stood before Judge Ward Sr. as he was told, "It is my understanding that you are currently out on a previous felony bond for burglary,". Ward went on to say, "Since that is the case, you are remanded to custody with no bail.".


Angie Harmon, mother of the victim, posted a comment on the Facebook page created for her daughter, which has gone viral, Justice for Shelby. Mrs. Harmon stated, "Good morning ALL! Thank you for all the support and prayers! I sat in the courtroom this morning as calmly watched as this pitiful soul was escorted in and informed of his charge: Vehicular Homicide. He never looked at me as I sat at stared at him, as he walked up to face the judge. He hung his head in shame and never looked my way. All I could think was he changed so many lives forever for the choice He made on October 20, 2012. He took my Shelby's life and ruined his own. Its really really sad! No one wins! And to know he did this to the one person who truly loved him. My heart goes out to his family. I know my daughter is in a magnificent place, but if convicted, he will go to one of the worst places known.".


Agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, and the Mississippi Highway Patrol have been processing evidence at the State Crime Lab and conducting an ongoing investigation since first being contacted by the Bolivar County Sheriff's Department upon their arrival to the crime scene. The deputies were dispatched by Boliver County 911 after a call at approximately 6:10 a.m. came in by a female motorist traveling on US 61 reported that she had hit something in the highway and she thought it was a body. It has also been reported that a second 911 call came in shortly after the first by another motorist that stated nearly the same thing.


Following these two calls to 911 and the deputies being dispatched, it was reported that Fulgham, the victims boyfriend, also called 911 and reported an accident but had already driven away from the scene.


The crime scene revealed the shocking and horrific aftermath of what was discovered to be the mutilated, lifeless body of Shelby Harmon. It appeared that Harmon had been run over by two traveling motorist after being first struck by the truck being driven by her boyfriend, Rodney Shelton Fulgham, and her body propelled into oncoming traffic.


It was reported that this incident occurred in the early morning hours following an argument between Fulgham and Harmon which turned violent. Though details are sketchy and actual reports vary, this case of physical domestic violence turned deadly after Harmon broke off the relationship with Fulgham and attempted to leave the residence which they shared.


Fulgham, who at the time, was out of jail on a bond for Felony Burglary, and awaiting trial, was taken into custody for questioning but later released. His release sparked a fire that quickly turned into a raging inferno throughout the community and then spread nation wide after social media was used to spread the details surrounding he death of Shelby. Demands of justice immediately began pouring in from all over the world.


On Monday, just prior to the arrest of Fulgham, Angie Harmon posted on Facebook, "This is my daughter. She is loved by many and now being supported by thousands. I ask for your continued support. Keep making noise. Keep calling. Keep telling everyone who will listen that you want justice for Shelby .Keep your voices loud so hers can be heard.".
